What is it? • Mount Everest is: • The highest mountain on earth and • the highest point on earth • Part of the highest range of • mountains • Formed 60 million years ago, as a • result of tectonic action • The landmass of India was forced against the landmass of Asia, and the Himalayan ranges were pushed up in between. • The process continues to this day, lifting the entire Himalayan range by several millimetres each year.

  3. Where is it? It is part of the Himalaya mountain range These are in Nepal, in Asia Why is it so special? It’s climate It’s the highest mountain It’s climbing difficulty and the number of failed attempts to reach the summit It contributed to the development of measuring, mapping, and surveying techniques, which were later used by many explorers to discover other unknown regions.
