Integrated Math 2 Lesson #37 Equations with Logs (Part 2) Mrs. Goodman
Properties of Logarithms • We can use properties of logarithms to expand or condense logarithmic expressions
Properties of Logarithms • We need to be able to apply these properties to condense expressions in order to solve logarithmic equations
Properties of Logarithms • Product Property: • logx a + logx b = logx ab
Properties of Logarithms • Quotient Property: • logx a - logx b = logx (a/b)
Properties of Logarithms • Power Property: • p logx m = logx mp
Using the Properties • Examples: • Condense each expression: • log2 4- log25 • 3log x - log 2 • 5log2 p + 2 log2 q
Using the Properties to Solve Equations • Condense first • Solve equations like we did in our last lesson!
Examples • 3log3 5 + log3 x = log3 50 • log3 x + log36 = 3 • log2 (x + 4) - log2 (x - 3) = 3
That’s all for today! • Thanks for working hard! • See you next time!
