  3. Counselors are here to help students…… • Appointments are available daily. • Facilitate student/parent/teacher conferences • Provide progress reports for parents upon request • Continually update student’s status towards meeting graduation requirements

Continued….. • Counseling Office Bulletin (COB)… monthly publication listing scholarships, testing and college admissions information, etc. – also available on WHS website. • Counseling Office Resource Bulletin…distributed to all Juniors in their US History classes in the Spring. • Assist with the college application process

  5. West High Tutorial Center • Tuesday - Thursday • Lunch (Room 5106) • After school 3-4pm (Library) • Peer tutoring, free • Stop by Room 5106 to make an appointment 24 hours in advance

  13. High School Graduation • Successful completion of 220 credits in the specified coursework. • Six or more semesters of composite satisfactory or excellent citizenship. • Pass California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE)

History, Government and Economics) • UC – 2 years (1 year U. S. History or 1 semester U. S. History and 1 semester Gov. and 1 year Social Studies) • CSU – 2 years (1 year U. S. History or 1 semester U. S. History and 1 semester Gov. and 1 year World History)

  23. TAKE A SUMMER TRIP • Visit prospective college campuses… Visit classes in session, talk to students, coaches, and/or faculty members, take a guided tour, arrange to have an interview with an admissions officer if recommended.

  25. What Financial Help is Available? • GRANTS…don’t need to repay, State/Federal money • LOANS…repay in future • SCHOLARSHIPS…gifts with no obligations to repay • WORK STUDY… work while attending school

  26. How do I get the money? • File Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) between January 1 and March 2 of Senior year. • File Cal Grant GPA Verification Form by March 2 of Senior year. • For Private Colleges, you must also submit the CSS Profile beginning October 1 of Senior year.
