Many people think of codes as being used to pass on secret information, but there are many codes we use in our everyday life.   2. Investigation into the symbols used for Braille Braille is a code which enables blind people to read. It was designed in 1833 by a Frenchman, Louis Braille. Black circles represent the raised dots. Task 1 How many possible patterns are there? HINT: There are a lot! How can we be systematic in our search?

  4. Task 3 Decode these short statements. Task 4 Using the template sheet, write your own message in Braille. Give it to a friend to decode. Stick your code and the translation onto coloured paper.
