Graduation Requirements • History (Wld Hist, US Hist, Govt, Econ) 30 credits • English 40 credits • Math (including Algebra 1) 20 credits • Science ( Life and Physical) 20 credits • Foreign Language 20 credits • Fine Art 10 credits • PE 20 credit • Electives 65 credits • Must pass the California High Exit Exam (CAHSEE). • Must earn full credit in all required courses. TOTAL: 225 credits

  6. Testing Schedule • 9th – 11th grade: State Tests • 10th grade: CA High School Exit Exam (February) • 10th grade (Fall): PSAT • 11th grade (Fall): PSAT • 11th grade (Spring): SAT and/or ACT • AP Exams - Generally 11th and 12th

  9. CALIFORNIA COMMUNITY COLLEGES(Requirements) • 110 colleges • If not a high school graduate, must be at least 18 years of age • No specific course requirements • No exams rerquired

  10. Cal State/ UC AdmissionA-G Requirements A- 2yrs. Social Science B- 4 yrs. English C- 3 yrs. Math – Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2 ( UC/4 yrs. Rec.) D- 2 yrs. Lab Science – 1 Biological, 1 Physical (UC/3yrs. Rec.) E- 2 yrs. Foreign Language – same language (UC/3yrs. Rec.) F- 1 yr. VPA – Visual and Performing Arts G- 1 yr. UC approved elective

  15. What to do in the 9th grade • Get to know your Counselor • Attend the 4yr. Planning Conference • Do your best in all classes • Begin to take part in Summer Programs • Visit local college campuses • Begin community service • Remember, you will have more options if you start planning now for college and keep your grades up.

  16. Support for Academic Success Attend Teacher Office Hours or talk to them during lunch or after school. Free Peer Tutoring – CSF students are assigned through Mr. Freedman. Private outside tutors

  17. Counselor’s Role • Meet with students to develop 4 yr. Plan • Ensure students are on-track for graduation and post graduation goals • Help determine appropriate course placement • Meet individually with struggling students • Serve as a source for information on high school and post high school options
