Basic Data: • Semimajor Axis: 0.72 AU • Revolution Period: 0.61 years • Diameter: 12104 km • Mass: 0.82 Earth • Density: 4.3 g/cm3 • Surface Gravity: 0.91 Earth • Rotation Period: 243 days • Reflectivity: 0.7 • Atmospheric Pressure: 90 bars
Landscape Two continents: Aphrodite, about the size of Africa on the Venusian equator. Ishtar, on the North, contains Maxwell mountains.
Normal Venus All the pictures we have are radar images. The surface of Venus cannot be seen because of the clouds.
Surface Activity: • Very few craters • The edges of the craters are sharp. • Recent craters • Small number means big geological activity with lots of volcanoes and lava flow.
Sif Mons There are two different kinds of volcanoes on Venus. Sif Mons is what we are accustomed to. A regular volcano with lava flow.
Atmosphere: • 90 bars • Mostly CO2 • High temperature 700K. • Runaway Greenhouse Effect. • Water evaporates, then dissociates in UV light, H2 escapes, O2 binds with C to form CO2.
