AGENDA Wednesday October 1, 2014 DO NOW!! CW #10A Multiple sets of data DUE DATES: FRIDAY~10-3-14 • H.W. #8 • NATURE OF SCIENCE EXAM PART 1 • EXAMINE THE DATA TABLE BELOW AND DISCUSS: • WHAT IS MISSING FROM THIS DATA TABLE? • What would be a good “testable question” (problem) • for this experiment? • What is the best temperature for • growing tomato plants? CONCEPT
ANNOUNCEMENTS: • NOS EXAM Part 1 Friday • HOMEWORK #8 DUE FRIDAYOct. 3 • NOS EXAM Part 2 Monday Oct. 6
Title your next blank page CW#9 part C: Bouncing Spherical Objects (leave this page blank to come back to it tomorrow)
CW#10 Part A: Multiple Sets of Data A science class was studying 2 different frogs; bullfrogs and leopard frogs. Each species had a distinct-sounding croak, so it was easy to tell the sounds apart. They noticed that both frog species seemed to croak at different rates when the temperature changed. Being curious scientists, they designed an experiment to see if temperature really affected the frogs’ croaking rates.
CW #10 Part aCroaking Frogs Step 1: Write a testable question (Problem) Problem: What is the effect of temperature on Frog croaking rate? Responding variable Manipulated variable
CW #10 Part aCroaking Frogs Step 2: Make a data table Manipulated variable on left side Responding variable on right
CW #10 Part aCroaking Frogs Step 3: Label the Columns. INCLUDE THE UNITS (c) Number of croaks per minute Temperature
CW #10 Part aCroaking Frogs Step 3: Label the Columns. INCLUDE THE UNITS (c) Number of croaks per minute Temperature bullfrogs Leopard frogs
CW #10 Part aCroaking Frogs The Effect of Temp. on Frog Croaking rates Step 4: Fill in the data table Step 5: title The data table (c) Number of croaks per minute Temperature bullfrogs Leopard frogs
CW #9 Part DCroaking Frogs • Step 6: Create a line graph Evenly spaced numbering system Responding variable on y axis Manipulated variable on x axis
CW #9 Part DCroaking Frogs • Step 6: Create a line graph Labels and units on each axis Temperature (c)
CW #10 Part ACroaking Frogs The effect of temp. on croaking rates • Step 6: Create a line graph Step 7: Title it 30 28 26 24 22 20 18 16 14 12 Croaks per minute Step 8: make a key 20 22 24 26 28 30 32 34 36 38 Temperature (c)
