On the Wiki Page Please go to our wikispaces page on the internet. On the right, you will notice a new tab, ‘Academy Tech’. Please click.
On the Wiki Page If you have not downloaded Skype to your computer, please click on the ‘Downloading Skype’ powerpoint and follow the instructions in it. Everyone else, open your Skype account.
Your Skype Homepage • Open Skype on your laptop. • Notice the screen’s different components: • Your Status • Contact List • News/Alerts • Option to view Top Contacts • Help Videos
Adding Contacts Simply click in the ‘Contacts’ bar and type the name, email address, or skype name of the person you are looking for to add to your list.
Adding Contacts Skype will search it’s database and find matches to your request. Please remember this is why it is important to include your school, country, state, and county email in your profile.
ADDING CONTACTS You can keep the original request text, or change it to your own, more personalized message. Then click ‘Send Request’.
Adding contacts You can rename your contact to a proper name, ex: Oprah Winfrey, instead of their skype moniker. And then you can look for additional people by clicking ‘Add another contact’.
Adding contacts Until your contact accepts you, their ‘cloud’ will remain gray, and you will not be able to call them.
Renaming your contact Right click on your contact, choose ‘Rename’ and rename them. Protocol suggestion: VCS NAME School Abbreviation= VCS KiraLenhart UHS. This can help as you add school, business and community contacts for your academy.
Calling your contacts Once your contact has accepted you, their cloud will be green, and you can see their contact details. Now you can call them, IM, or send files to them.
Calling your contacts Calling without video – clear audio quality, uses whatever image you have set-up in your profile.
Calling your contacts With one video call, and one without the video.
Calling your contacts Call using IM, click the talk bubble. Type in the bottom box and click ‘Send message’ or just hit ‘Enter’.
Calling your contacts Call using IM and sending a picture. Just click ‘Save as’ to save the file to a location on your computer.
ADDING PEOPLE TO YOUR CALL Adding another person to the call.
ADDING PEOPLE TO YOUR CALL The call now drops from video to a conference call. Contact boxes will light up with whoever is speaking.
CALL SUMARY Notice at the end of the call, Skype gives you a call summary, and history of any files that may have been sent. You can also ‘Save Group’ to your contacts.
CALLING YOUR CONTACTS This is the Group Contact I created for this workshop. Notice it will only be a voice call – not video, but I can still send files and text messages to the group.
Seinding files Click ‘Share’ next to the green ‘Call’ button. Choose ‘Send File…’
Seinding files Browse your computer to find the file you want to ‘push’. Double-click it.
Seinding files Your file is being sent. Your contact will have to ‘Save’ the file on their end to complete the transfer. You can send Word, Excel, Pdf’s, pictures, etc… LET’S PRACTICE
Common planning You can conduct common planning sessions via skype. Here you will see there was video discussion, texting, and file transfers. Notice that you can ‘Show messages’ from different time frames. Either copy/paste this into your planning document, or print screen and save as a picture.
EXPANDING YOUR CLASSROOM Here, Jeremy Blinn shows us a short 10 second intro to a virtual field trip he conducted with another classroom. Jeremy- would you like to share some additional comments.
