  1. Dumb and Dumber Characters Lloyd Christmas is a semi-literate and mischievous man who has been fired from several jobs . He melodramatically falls in love with Mary while taking her to the airport, and becomes convinced he is destined to track her down, return her misplaced briefcase, and spend his future with her. He and Harry are the main characters. Harry Dunne is a good-natured guy, and best friend to Lloyd. What he lacks in common sense, he makes up for by being a superior linguist to Lloyd. With Lloyd, he plans to open up his own pet store to specialize in selling worm farms; the store is tentatively named "I Got Worms.“

  2. Nicholas Andre is the main antagonist of the movie. He is a wealthy, handsome, intelligent and upper-class resident of Aspen, Colorado, who enjoys fine living. Andre is a long-time confidant of the equally wealthy family of Aspen, the Swansons. However Andre is behind the plot to kidnap Mary’s husband and demand a ransom. His plot is foiled by Harry and Lloyd after they find and spend the ransom money, drawing the attention of the FBI. After attempting to kill Lloyd and Harry, Andre is arrested.

  3. Bobby Swanson is the rich victim of Andre's plot. He is in captivity throughout the movie, until the end, when he is freed. • Mary Swanson) is an attractive lady whose husband Bobby has been kidnapped (by a family friend, it is ultimately revealed). She is the object of Lloyd's longing, and when Harry meets her, she also becomes the object of Harry's longing.

  4. Joe "Mental" Mentalino is a tall, beefy, cold-hearted criminal who works as a henchman for Nicholas Andre, the kidnapper. He suffers from severe digestive problems, including ulcers and intestinal gas, for which he is continually seen popping prescription antacid pills. He attempts to kill Lloyd and Harry, as well as retrieve the briefcase, but is accidentally killed for his troubles when the rat poison tablets (with which he intended to poison Lloyd and Harry) are mistaken for his pills (which Harry and Lloyd tried to feed him after they, unaware of his condition, loaded a burger with extremely hot chili peppers).

  5. J.P. Shay is the female accomplice of Mental. She appears as Andre's date at the wildlife benefit. • Beth Jordan is an FBI agent masquerading as a talkative young woman who is moving to Aspen to get away from her clumsy boyfriend. She is actually following Lloyd and Harry as she is investigating the kidnapping and knows they have the ransom money.

Famous Quotes from Dumb and Dumber ... • [after Lloyd trades the van in for a moped] Harry: Just when I thought you couldn't possibly be any dumber, you go and do something like this... and totally redeem yourself! • Lloyd: Why you going to the airport? Flying somewhere? Mary: How'd you guess? Lloyd: I saw your luggage. Then when I noticed the airline ticket, I put 2 and 2 together.

  7. Harry: Hi, Lloyd. Lloyd: Hi, Harry. Harry: How was your day? Lloyd: Not bad. Fell off the jet way again. • Harry: I can't believe we drove around all day, and there's not a single job in this town. There is nothing, nada, zip! Lloyd: Yeah! Unless you wanna work forty hours a week. • Harry: I expected the Rocky Mountains to be a little rockier than this. Lloyd: I was thinking the same thing. That John Denver's full of s***, man. • Harry: Yeah I called her up. She gave me a bunch of crap about me not listening to her, or something. I don't know, I wasn't really paying attention.

  8. What happened in the end? Writing the ending to Dumb and Dumber: • The hardest thing in the world about making a movie is to satisfactorily end. Co-director Bobby Farrellysays, "We almost always have a couple of different endings in mind, and it's informative to show the audience the different direction you might have gone." • On Dumb and Dumber, Farrelly says he and his brother, Peter, shot five endings before settling on the scene in which Lloyd and Harry pass up a chance to ........ • The alternates, including one in which the two turn down a cushy job, "just didn't work," Farrelly says. "They were amusing but left the audience a little unsatisfied.“
