  2. The three local shops chosen are: • “Grania” • “Ivona” • “Ema” - They are all popular shops in town, which offer a wide range of food products.

Strategies of selling goods: • Before arranging goods in his shop, the manager :creates a pleasant and attractive place for customers, makes sure that the customers get high quality products, employs attractive, polite and kind shop-assistants, makes sure it is clean and fresh air all over the place; uses a lot of light for the products to be spotted very quickly; • The goods which sell very well are placed at hand, on inferior shelves, and the goods which don’t sell very well are placed on the superior shelves; • The prices are very visible

Strategies of selling goods: • Sausages and salami are placed in a different department, isolated from the rest of the shop, to avoid unpleasant smell in the shop; • The most wanted products are placed in the “gold area” or at your “eye-level”; • At the cashier they place the chewing gum and the cigarettes; • Bakery products are placed separately, at the entrance of the shop; • There are used key-words such as: “for you only”, “buy one and you get one for free”, “special offer”, “present”, “ “discount”… to attract customers.

  7. Rules for expired goods • If a customer finds expired goods on the shelf, the manager MUST • Give the customer all the money back; OR • Get the products replaced with good ones;

  8. STORY ONE • A woman bought expired eggs from the supermarket, but she noticed it at home. She complained and the manager gave her the money back and he gave her fresh eggs for free.

  9. STORY TWO • A boy bought an expired face cream from the chemist’s. He used it before looking at the expiry date and he had a serious face irritation. He complained the owner of the chemist’s and he paid his treatment and returned all the money to the boy.

  10. STORY THREE • Mr. Tony bought some bread from the supermarket. To his surprise, he found a piece of cloth in a loaf of bread. He complained to the bakery, but they didn’t take anything into account. He wrote a letter of complaint to the Consumer Protection Organization and that bakery was fined and closed, as they didn’t have the proper hygienic conditions required.
