Erosion-the wearing away and removal of rock or sediment GravityIceWindWater
GRAVITY-Mass Movements • Creep-sediment moves slowly downhill (caused by freezing and thawing) • Slump- • Rock Slides- layers of rock break loose from slopes and slide down to the bottom • Mudflows-a mass of wet sediment that flows downhill over the ground surface (heavy rains or melting snow and ice saturate sediments-common on some volcanoes)
ICE • Glacial Erosion- • The ice can pull out pieces of rock • Loosen pieces of rock freeze to the bottom of the glacier • Glacier drags the rock as it moves • *
Glaciers Continental Valley
WIND • Deflation-wind blows away tiny sediment • Abrasion-
WATER: (Runoff) Sheet Flow- when water flows downhill as a thin sheet and carries loose sediment grains with it • Rills and Gullies- Rills are small channels cut into the sediment where water flows around obstacles at Earth’s surface. Gullies are when the runoff continues to flow through the rills and more sediment erodes and the channel widens to about 0.5m across. • Streams-
