Open Educational Resources By: Mary Magee, Michelle Myhre, Tayla Peterson, Allison Quist, Alyssa Schmidt Introduction: While researching OER we found that OER is a free international database used for teachers and students to build relationships and help understand academic content. Provides new opportunities for learning while also challenge how teaching and learning should be carried out. Method: What does OER stand for? OER has been introduced in other countries other than the US Define OER OER databases covers Elementary and Secondary grade levels Which of the following are benefits that come from using OER databases? Does OER only provide online textbooks? Did OER start at Harvard University? What is the idea behind OER? If you were given the opportunity to use this in the classroom, would you use this, if so, how? How effective do you think OER is in the classroom? We collected our data through survey monkey. We asked our questions in a couple different formats, we used; multiple choice, true and false, open ended questions and yes or no questions. We had 17 people respond to our survey. We had 13 people from our class complete the survey and another 4 students that are not in the class complete the survey to meet the recommended 15. Conclusions and findings: From the data we collected we found that most people have heard of or used OER. The data shows that the majority of students knew the general idea of what OER does and how it improves education. It would be beneficial for students to be able to try out OER resources themselves before they are surveyed. We believe that communication about OER resources between faculty and students is crucial to implementing OER in the classroom. Sources Giving knowledge for free. (2007).
