TELUS – 22% of Canadian Telecommunications market
“What IEEE is publishing is of no interest to us”
“IEEE is very late in reporting on new and exciting developments in our technology”
“This is stuff for professors and graduate students, not for working professionals in telecommunications”
Only 4 of 800 TELUS employees reporting to Mr. Gedeon accepted a free IEEE membership offer!
14. 14 Increase IEEE relevance by… Providing solutions that are meaningful to industry practitioners
In a timely manner
To those ends, the following project is proposed…
15. 15 IEEE Practitioners’ Body of Knowledge Project Purpose and Description
Academia needs are well satisfied with literature publishing opportunities within IEEE. In order to increase IEEE relevance to industry members and attract industry non-members, it is proposed to develop a Practitioner’s Body of Knowledge (BOK) in EACH of the technical disciplines within IEEE. Suggested project steps:
Develop multi-phased plan
Develop infrastructure
Develop operational guidelines
Develop BOK template
Develop metrics on use & usefulness
2010 Deliverables
Implement Phase 1 – begin capturing practitioners’ knowledge
16. Similar to 16
17. 17 Additional ITCO Thoughts/Ideas for 2010 Raise priority on vTools (staffing, funding) to accelerate delivery of high member-value products quarterly
