Introduction • Hawa Mahal or Palace of Winds in Jaipur is an iconic attraction of the Golden Triangle Tour which is about exploring the rich heritage, culture, traditions and historical monuments of India by visiting the three magical destinations- Delhi, Agra and Jaipur. The majestic forts, splendid palaces and colorful bazaars entice large number of tourists every year. • There is a must-visit to Hawa Mahal in Jaipur which will take you to the bygone era. Located in the centre of walled pink city, this is a bee-hive structure made by using pink and red sand stones.

  4. History of Hawa Mahal • The palace comprises of 953 windows and was built by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh in 1799. If you think air circulation was the reason behind the construction of large number of windows then you are wrong. These windows were built to allow the royal women to see the outside streets without being unseen to the outsiders. The project was completed under the supervision of architect, Ustad Lal Chand.

  5. Exteriors of Hawa Mahal • Hawa Mahal is a 5-storey structure with a shape of a crown of Lord Krishna. There are open courtyards behind the huge structure. The 953 jharokhas or windows are the main feature of this majestic beauty. These windows were enough to let women see outside and keep them protected from the outside eyes. The architecture is a blend of Rajputana and Mughal Style. • You would be surprised to know that Hawa Mahal is the tallest building in the world without a solid foundation. Thus, a palace leans at an angle of 87 degree nut stands firmly due to its pyramidal shape.

The five storeys are named as: • First Storey - It is the Sharad Mandir where the monsoons was welcomed with the celebrations.
