Unite In the Fight Against Cancer People are at risk of getting cancer. Currently 8.2 million people die from cancer worldwide every year, out of which, 4 million people die prematurely (aged 30 to 69 years) 4th February is World Cancer Day. When millions of people unite in the fight against cancer. Cancer is a heterogeneous group of diseases that result from abnormal cell growth and have the potential to spread to other parts of the body. Research suggests that one-third of cancer deaths can be avoided through prevention, and another third through early detection and treatment. Some facts about cancer:- Breast, lung and prostate cancer are the most commonly diagnosed cancers worldwide. Approximately 70% of patients with lung cancer die, while only 16% and 14% of patients with breast and prostate cancer suffer the same fate. Childhood cancers are not common. Less than 1% of all cancers diagnosed in a given year will be for a child under the age of 15. Learn to recognize some of the general signs and symptoms of cancer. Although the signs and symptoms differ for each cancer type, here are general signs and symptoms: 1) The presence of an obvious mass (a lump) 2) Unexplained weight loss 3) Loss of appetite 4) Frequent fever Things to do:- Exercise & Stay in Shape: 30 to 60 minutes a day of Moderate to High-Intensive Physical Activity. Exercise reduces the risk of Prostate, Lung and Endometrial cancer. Talk with your doctor about what kind of Exercise is right for you. Eat and Drink Wisely: Eating an Assortment of Fruits and Vegetables is an important part of Healthy Diet. Choose the Fruits & Vegetables that are Deep in Color or Green and Leafy. Limit Your Alcohol: Drinking Alcohol on regular basis is associated with increased risk of Breast, Colorectal, Mouth, Voice box, and throat cancer. Protect your skin from the Sun: wear sunscreen when you go out in the sun. Understand the risks of smoking and urge people who smoke, to quit. Smoking causes 22% of cancers every year. Second hand smoking is linked to Breast cancer, Nasal Sinus Cavity Cancer in Adults & Leukemia, Lymphoma, Brain Tumors in Children. Since cancer knows no boundaries, and individual countries cannot address the challenges of cancer in isolation, a new cooperative approach to research, advocacy, prevention and treatment must be established.
