ISDM | Pedagogy The courses offered over the year fall into six clusters: 1. Unique Development Management course offerings with a mix of Development and Business Management fundamentals: Courses include Perspectives on Society and Development, State, Market & Society, Systems Thinking, Financial Perspectives, Operations Management for Quality and Impact, Behaviour Change Communication, Marketing Management, Human Development in an Unequal World to Technology and Management, Corporate Social Responsibility. ‘New age’ electives like Behavioural Sciences in Social Change, Introduction to Digital Marketing and Social Entrepreneurship are also offered. 2. Personal Mastery for Development Leadership: Spread over 7 terms, this is anchored in the need to inculcate the spirit of curiosity, courage and compassion in students. It believes in creating a safe space for teams to flourish and thrive, encouraging generative conversations for collaboration, relating with diversities, acting with positive emotions, emotional resilience and building attentional focus 3. Writing in the Discipline: It focuses on quipping students with the skills to communicate effectively (write, tell and present) with a clear demonstration of the characteristics of the development sector. This includes using a language that is specific and appropriate to the development sector, including the right choice of words and a tone that recognises the complex nature of social change and the emergent nature of this work. This will be reinforced in sessions throughout the year. 4. Context-Based Collaborative Learning (CBCL): A unique offering at ISDM with experienced bricoleurs working with students on a one-to- one basis and groups to discuss individual learning journeys and key development lenses to differentiate management for the social sector such as collaboration, equity and social justice. 5. Specially curated workshops: These cover a range of topics including Group Dynamics, Radical Transformation Leadership (RTL) to future-forward workshops on Networks, Partnerships and Alliances, Fund Raising, Knowledge Management Systems, Project Management, and Volunteer Management. 6. Realising India immersion: This is a part of CBCL as a two-week structured immersion program planned for the students between Terms 2 and 3. It enables the students to develop a deep understanding of people’s lives at the district level, preparing them to design interventions. *Apart from the above, there are live sessions by established leaders, Harvard ManageMentor courses and Special Capstone Projects that students undertake.
PGP-DM STRUCTURE The 49-week PGP-DM is divided into 8 Terms, they are mapped in the following manner: Curriculum: Term 1 Perspectives on Society and Development State, Market, and Society Economic Reasoning and Public Policy Data Analysis for Development Managers Term 2 Preparing for Realising India Participatory Approaches and Processes Communication in the Discipline Understanding State Capabilities Two-week Realising India immersion: The two week immersion in a district that enables the student to engage with ground realities from multiple perspectives. Term 3 Intervention Design for Social Impact (IDSI) Purposeful Program Theory and Monitoring Monitoring and Evaluation Term 4 Strategy Accounting and Financial Management (including Planning, Budgeting, and Costing) Principles of Marketing Talent Management Term 5 Development Evaluation Operations Management for Quality (including Knowledge Management Systems and MIS) Fund Raising and Resource Mobilisation + Networks and Partnerships One Elective CURRICULUM
