  1. Myers-Brigg Lesson Personality Unit Ms. Rebecca Psychology 12

  2. Last time: • We learned that personality is how each individual person feels, thinks, and acts • We also learned that psychologists use personality tests like the 5 Factor model to try to classify different personality traits for people.

  3. Today • We are going to focus on a different type of personality test and classification (or label for parts of peoples’ personality)

  4. I. Myers-Brigg Type Indicator • One of the most popular personality tests. http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51W37JQSM6L._SL500_.jpg

  5. A. Why was it created? • To help employers hire people who were best suited for certain kinds of jobs http://www.alwayswow.com/Ikea%20Job%20Interview.jpg

  6. B.Origins • a. Based on the theory of a dude named Cark Jung (we’ll talk more about him later) http://www.worldpersonalities.com/personalities/carl_jung.jpg

  7. b. What did Jung believe? • i. Jung believed that how a person acts in certain situations is based on that person’s personality type. http://www.bryanvollman.com/9%20Design/Think%20Before%20You%20Speak.jpg

  8. C. What’s the test about? • i.About 126 questions! (that was a joke, you should laugh to make me feel good about myself) • But seriously, the test asks many questions and based on how you answer, you’re supposed to learn about different aspect of your personality

  9. ii. WHAT aspects of my personality? • 1. Extroversion vs. Introversion • 2. Sensing vs. Intuition • 3. Thinking vs. Feeling • 4. Judging vs. Perceiving

  10. D. How do you take the test? • a. The test taker classifies their preference for each dimension as strong, moderate (middle) or weak. http://www.goldilockschristianity.com/images/lukewarm_christian.jpg

  11. i. The stronger your preference of a certain dimension…… • The more you will show the characteristics of that personality aspect. • For example: If I REALLY strongly agree with the introversion dimension than I probably act introverted (or shy) most of the time.

  12. Still confused? • Here’s some more info: http://www.robopocalypse.com/RAD/2006_04_26.jpg

  13. ii. Each preference for • 1. Extroversion vs. Introversion • 2. Sensing vs. Intuition • 3. Thinking vs. Feeling • 4. Judging vs. Perceiving • Is characterized by a way of seeing or responding to situations and people

  14. For example • Extroverted people enjoy interacting with people while Introverted people prefer to do activities by themselves. • So you could characterize your self as Introverted or Extroverted based on whether you like to be alone or around people.

  15. II. So what does this have to do with personality types? • Based on the way you answer questions about your preferences in different situations you have a combination of characteristics that make up your personality type.

  16. Let’s take the test! • I’m going to pass out a Myers-Brigg test for you to take yourself!
