The AM&T Pyramid These boundaries are permeable and always shifting but do create useful “shortcut” terminology How hard is this for faculty to do? Does this require staff assistance or can faculty do for themselves? Service, Collaboration, or Partnership? More staff & faculty effort needed, higher unit cost (chargeback?), still robust and reliable, probably on its way to being infrastructure (e.g. research.yale.edu & SSRS) Is this technology suitable and sustainable in the long term in our campus environment? What was once novel becomes routine and expected and usually takes on a long term funding life of its own! Level of Staff and Faculty Effort Ubiquitous, fundamental, primarily self/low-service low per unit cost, infrastructure, mature, robust (e.g. email & classes.yale.edu) Unit Costs & Technical Risk Technology Maturation Above and beyond staff time and effort what will this project cost and how risky is the technology we are using? Innovation A few courses @ $10k’s Exploration & Dissemination Tens of courses @ $1k’s Very small number of projects, heavy custom work required, may be a one time effort, high cost per unit Foundation & Operations Hundreds of courses @ $100’s Participation, Investment and Impact
