  2. What is a Cholecystectomy? Cholecystectomyis the medical name of surgery to remove your gallbladder. The gallbladder is a small organ just below the liver. Its main purpose is to produce a type of digestive fluid called bile. Although the gallbladder is very helpful for digestion, it is not essential.
