  2. Problem #1, Cesar Chavez and The United Farm Workers (1965- 1969) New immigrants were forced to work as farm workers. They were treated horribly and all they wanted was to fix the way they were treated, and having an option on wanting or not wanting to work on the farms. They also wanted improvements in pesticides and housingand want a pay raise. (www.pbs.org-Fight )

  3. Problem #2, The Montgomery Bus Boycott (1955-1956) Back then, black people were not being treated fairly in the South. They were segregated for everything they did. For example, bathrooms, schools, and water fountains were separated. MLK was inspired by the famous Rosa Parks and MLK decided to start a bus boycott to get black people's rights. It lasted for about thirteen months. (Stride Towards Freedom Ch.4)

  4. Activism Tactics Used MLK Boycotts : The black people would not use the bus until the demands were met. The demands were that the black and white people would no longer be segregated on the buses; they'd be allowed to sit together and be mixed. Speeches- A famous speech of MLK's is "I Have a Dream." Activism Tactics Used - UFW The united farm workers used strikes/protest - a strike/protest was led because they demanded their hourly wage to be $1.25 (Fight in the Fields, PBS) Boycotts - a boycott against growers of table grapes Nonviolence - In general, they used different nonviolent movements as tactics ( Fight in the Fields PBS)

  6. Government Responses UFW: Before Caesar came, the government tried to stop the protests and they were successful with it. When Caesar came, he was able to help the farmers. He led many strikes and he was able to make the government back off to what they were doing. The government gave up and decided to make a contract for all of the farmworkers. (Fight in the fields.   7. Government Responses MLK: The government tried so hard to stop the boycott but nothing was working out. MLK still believed in Gandhi's philosophy of nonviolence and that was what brung the whole community together. That was also how the supreme court found out about the unjust laws against MLK and they finally got their freedom! ~Stride Towards Freedom Chapter 9~

  8. UFW: In 1969, the United Farm Workers finally received contracts for having their rights on the fields. For example, pesticides and housing were improved and payments rose There were a few ups and downs later but they all resulted with "a positive effect on the entire American Labor Movement' (Fight in the Fields-PBS). MLK: In 1956, MLK got a letter from the Supreme Court saying that what was happening to them on the busses was unconstitutional. The day after, the Bus Boycott ended! (Stride Towards Freedom).
