  4. APPLICATION • Filling out the FAFSA is an APPLICATION PROCESS. WWW.FAFSA.ED.GOV • COA-Cost of Attendance • EFC-Expected Family Contribution • Financial Need

  5. Financial Need The government will give you an EFC based on your household income. Your EFC is how the school will decide what aid you are eligible for. $22,964 (COA) - $7,000 (EFC) $15,964 (Need)

FEDERAL STUDENT AID • Grants – Pell Grant • Need based awards that are free. • Loans – Federal Student Loans • Federal student loans generally have a lower interest rate than a private loan through a bank or credit union. • Federal Work Study • A need based program offering jobs on campus. Your payment can go straight to tuition or you can receive a check or direct deposit.

OTHER STUDENT AID • State Aid • Missouri Access Grants-Need based from the state • A+ • Bright Flight- 31 or over on the ACT • Institutional Aid • Scholarships and other money received from the school YOU MUST FILE A FAFSA TO RECEIVE ANY OF THESE TYPES OF AID REMEMBER YOU HAVE TO SUBMIT A FAFSA EVERY YEAR YOU ARE IN SCHOOL!!!   9. DEADLINES January 1 – April 1 The FAFSA is available from January 1st through April 1st. The state starts dividing up the money after April 1st. March 1 MIZZOU, MISSOURI STATE, SEMO, MISSOURI WESTERN, UMKC, UMSL, UCM, WILLIAM WOODS Many universities have a deadline of March 1st. Be sure to check with the school you have applied to. TAXES If you cannot complete your taxes by these deadlines, you can file your FAFSA with an estimation from your W2 or last year’s tax return, then correct your FAFSA after filing.
