  2. Rosmoney Pontoon Group – Objective • To promote a facility where users of the pier in Rosmoney can board and disembark from their boats in a safe manner at varying tides

  3. Existing Situation at Rosmoney

  4. Traffic in Rosmoney • 5 inhabited islands in Clew Bay, this is their access to the mainland • Glenans Sailing School • The Adventure Islands • Local supply vessels • Mayo Sailing Club and other recreational users • This is a busy pier! • Already, sadly one fatality – many accidents (mostly unreported)

Progress to Date – slide 1 • Sept 2009 - Steering Group formed and meeting regularly • March 2010 - Consultation with Mayo County Council and subsequent buy-in • April 2010 - Mayo County Council have funded and submitted the foreshore license application (File # MS51/13/417) • Sept 2010 –consultations with locals- users- residents etc – • Oct 2010 - Project design and initial costings in place • February 2011- Potential funding avenues investigated

Progress to Date – slide 2 • March 21st 2011 – presentation to Clew Bay Forum – total support for the project • April 2011 - Met with South Mayo Leader, who are supportive of this type of community based project • May 2011 - Agreement in Principle reached with MCC and South Mayo Leader that a Co-Funding arrangement was possible between MCC-SM Leader and RPG • June 2011 - Fundraising drive initiated • June 2011 - Arranging meeting with MCC designated project manager to put permissions in place

Benefits to Mayo SC Members • Loading and Unloading will be much easier and safer • Our departure & arrival times will not be so dependant on tides • Water and power on the pontoon • Safe Access for older & younger sailors • Access for disabled/reduced mobility & wheelchair hoist • Longer sailing lives for all!! • Better impression & facility for visitors • Some basic rules (set down, load up for 10 mins, consideration for islanders), but common sense by all will allow it to work (Code of Practice signage)

Costings • Overall costings - €200,000 • Leader have agreed in principle to fund the project • Mayo County Council have agreed in principle to fund their part of the project (incl. foreshore licence, planning permission, structural design, tendering, etc.) • Rosmoney Pontoon Group have to come up with €25,000

  15. Long Term Management • The pontoon will be initially owned by Rosmoney Pontoon Group (this is the group that can access Leader Funding) • Ownership will be transferred to Mayo County Council after an agreed period • Mayo County Council will be responsible for the maintenance & upkeep of the pontoon – from the outset

  16. What do we need? • We are now in the funding stage (to actually put this pontoon “in the water”) • We are looking for donations from the group of people who will benefit most – Mayo Sailing Club! • We need to raise €10,000 from Mayo Sailing Club • We plan to have this pontoon operational for the start of the 2012 season!
