  1. Athletic Classification 2014-2018

  2. Timeline • The classification determination will lock us into a certain district through 2018. • If we choose to remain where we are, 3A, then no action has to be taken by the board or ASAA • If we choose to change to 2A, the Board has to vote on it for the December 11 meeting • On the ASAA agenda, tentatively for their December 15-17 meeting.

  3. Cordova Enrollment Information • Average 4% decline over last 10 years • Current HS (9-12) enrollment is 103 • Average 3A enrollment is 247 students • South Central Conference w/o Cordova is 278 students • Average 2A enrollment is 78 students

  7. “Pros” 2A Status Quo More JV and C team competition Travel costs are less when Ferry is running “Comfortable” • Teams will be more competitive • Still schedule games with traditional 3A competitors (ie Valdez) to include JV

  8. Cons 2A Status Quo Not competitive When teams have a JV and C, we have to occasionally provide funds to bring them here. • Don’t have relationship with districts • Travel will be more challenging • Very little JV competition

  9. What are the Options? • Stay in 3A for both Volleyball and Basketball • Move to 2A for Volleyball and stay 3A for Basketball (or vice versa) • Move to 2A for Volleyball and Basketball

  10. Commitment to Committee • First meeting is November 16, from 9-12 at the District Conference room. • Comparing estimated travel costs • Discussing viewpoint of other conferences toward our potential move • Necessity of additional meeting • Must have a recommendation to the Board for the December 11 Board Meeting.
