  2. Background • 2007 Care Inspectorate Report recommends that more be done to improve employment outcomes in Glasgow for people with learning disabilities • Existing provision was reviewed and various models were discussed • New Supported Employment Service was established in Oct / Nov 2009

  3. Glasgow Supported Employment Service • Funded by Glasgow City Council and the European Social Fund through Glasgow Works. • 6 job coaches and a service manager. • Staff based within partner organisations (Glasgow’s Regeneration Agency and Glasgow Works Employer Engagement Team) to increase access to mainstream resources and avoid duplication of services.

  4. Glasgow Supported Employment Service ELIGIBILITY • Learning disability • Live within the GCC area • 16 years+ • Want to work 16 hours / week or more

Supported Employment Process Home visit and initial assessment inc in work benefits calculation Eligibility confirmed – feedback to referrer Referrals acknowledged Vocational Profiling up to 12 weeks Vocational Profile completion meeting Job finding Monitoring & Evaluation Career & Development Job coaching

  6. Progress • 196 referrals since Dec 2009 • 42 job outcomes • 82% sustainability rate at 6 months for those employed • On average people have been £90 per week better off • Over 80 employers engaged • Many other people signposted to more appropriate services • Positive independent evaluation undertaken in early 2011

  7. Recommendations from evaluation • Increase links with emerging new operational Social Work structure • Infrastructure within team to improve internal communication • More joint working within team • Marketing and awareness – develop different ways of promoting service and clients to employers
