Initial summary & questions Jan 23, 2014, Jizan Earthquake • We notice distinct wave-propagation effects in different directions (SW; NE; NW) • Two stations have nice/clean S-wave pulse that may reveal the source signature • Shake-map patterns variable for different GM-metrics • Ground-motions consistent with GMPE for M ~5 out to ~500km; after that quick decay with distance (attenuation) • When was the last earthquake of similar size or larger in this region? • Faulting style? Geological structure? Fault? • Damage? People? Reactions?
