Course Requirements & Grading Presentations: 70% Attendance: 30% ( sign-in sheet, > 2 absences = penalty w/out prior arrangement. ) Presentations: • Each student prepares & presents ~20 minute talk on a topic related to the faculty research presentations • Faculty will provide “lead” references … for guidance in choosing your topic … base your talk on paper(s) related to material in lead refs … some lead refs are OK for direct use, but… avoid review articles. • You are encouraged to meet with faculty & discuss topic … this is general advice for the term … explore your research opportunities

Student Presentations (cont.’) • Timeline: 10/27 (Mon) Submit title & outline on intended topic. (prior discussion with Dr. Breneman recommended) 10/29 (Weds) Receive feedback on outline. 11/3 (Mon) Submit abstract. - prepare presentation & ~1 wk before your presentation, meet w/ Dr. Breneman to discuss. Revise and practice. 11/10 – 12/3 Student presentations. - schedule detail distributed later in term. - attendance is critical.
Policy on Academic Honesty • Refer to course syllabus !!! • Highlights: … Collaborative or copied work is not allowed for exams or projects (even if you reference it) • Plagiarism particularly to be avoided in your written assignments & oral presentations. … However, you should seek feedback from your peers and other sources on how to improve your writing and oral presentations. • Minimum penalty for non-compliance is an automatic overall course grade of C.
