Pericles, Cont… • How did he help democracy in Athens? - Increased number of paid public officials. - Meant didn’t have to be wealthy to hold office; gave free males more equal voice. • How did he increase trade? - Built up Navy - Expanded Greek Empire (Delian League) • How did he beautify Greece? - Rebuilt structures after Persian Wars. - Built up Athens as center of Greek culture. http://www.crystalinks.com/pericles.html
