Homogeneidad y diversidad en educaciónHomogeneity versus diversity in schools Our experience as a group: • Being part of the group has been a multicultural experience and a challenge. • Dealing with different languages, different cultures, different ways of thinking, different expectations. • And everyone has learned, but maybe different things. • We have tried to find different solutions, some with success and some without.
Homogeneidad y diversidad en educaciónHomogeneity versus diversity in schools I Ideas we discussed in our group: A) Interculturalism from a individual perspective • Look at all the individuals as human beings and equals • Focus on strength instead of weakness • Empowering individuals instead of discriminating them • Look at each individual’s culture identity as a resource for others and as an enrichment

Homogeneidad y diversidad en educaciónHomogeneity versus diversity in schools B) Interculturalism from a social- cultural perspective • Communication beyond language, like a way of approaching the other • Problem solving in peace instead of “war” • Helping individuals to rethink and rebuild themselves discovering different way to meet others

Be aware of our responsibilities. • Immigrants considered as a resource instead of just `people who need help´. • To deal with racism we have to deal with powerand leadership social structures.
