Everyone has a story. Everyone has a past. It’s the meaning you assign that story, and what you do with it that determines your destiny. Wouldn’t it be great, if in the snap of your fingers you could rewrite your entire life’s story? What if you could rewrite itin such a way that when you play it back, there is a positive meaning? Further, that at each point along the story you realize what you have learned, and how the situation made you stronger and better equipped to conquer obstacles in yourfuture.
The problem with the theory above is,“How inthe world could anyone do that?” How do we take traumatizing events and use them for our betterment? The foundation of what we do here at PTSD Retreats like the Inner North StarPTSD Retreat Center, in Julian, CA is helping to makethis a reality for everyone who comes here. The following steps are part of our program to enable better health, wellness, andresilency: Seek Help at PTSD HealingRetreat This first step is probably the most difficult as it takes true courage and strength. But the reality is, it’s very hard to have a different perspective on our life, because it’s OUR life. Seeing things from a different vantage point other than our own, requires a neutral party to listen and offer up ideas and viewpoints that we may have neverconsidered. This is a big reason why I am such a supporter of mentorship and coaching. Realizing you can’t goit alone, is the first step inhealing.
Don’t keep your feelings and emotions bottled up I think we all know what happens to a soda can that has been shaken and then popped open…it explodes everywhere. The pressure that has built up is desperately seeking a release. And the second there’s a crack―look out. People are no different. The more things stay bottled up, the higher the likeliness for an eruption. The goodnews is, there are many avenues that are extremely helpful to avoid that situation and for stress management. These range from journaling, Yoga Nidra (guided meditation), Tapping (EFT), and HeartMath (biofeedback), just to name a few. Each of these are skills learned while you arehere. Everyone has something that works best forthem, the key is tostart.

One goal is to step back and bring awareness to the whole of your life andrealize that everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, happens for you, not to you. Once that reality sinks in, it becomes quite easy to find gratitude in each moment, both in the good times and the challenging ones as they arehappening.
