Penndale Middle School Canned Food Drive 2,929 cans total ≈ 2,400 pounds of food! 2012-2013
Each math teacher was given a bar graph to keep track of how many cans the students brought in and several boxes to fill.
8th grade teachers read the book Can-Do Thanksgiving to their classes A girl named Dee donated a can of pees to her school’s Can-Do Food Drive. The soup kitchen who received their cans invited the students to come and share a Thanksgiving meal.
Each class filled in one box per can on the bar graph, competing with other math classes, to see who could bring in the most cans…

We learned more about Manna on Main Street and what they do for the North Penn community.
Manna’s Food Pantry • Open five days a week – varying hours each day. • Friends are welcome to shop if they live within the North Penn School District service area. • Our pantry operates using a choice model, allowing individuals to select the foods that meet their dietary needs and preferences as much as possible. • Our pantry is largely stocked through community donations. • This past year, Manna provided 95 tons of groceries to 736 families. • In the past three years, food pantry use has increased by 60%. Manna’s Soup Kitchen was preparing for lunch
Manna’s Soup Kitchen • Our soup kitchen is open to the public seven days a week. • Those who are hungry can eat with friends and neighbors twice a day (Mon – Sat), with lunch on Sunday. • Meals are served restaurant style, allowing guests to rest while volunteers serve from the menu. • Last year, Manna served 21,000 meals! • In our new dining room, we can serve more than 30 friends at a time. We were told that all the cans we gave to Manna would be used in under a month! • At this time, they are in great need of cereal, peanut butter, and pasta sauce.
