Bell Times Survey May 2012
Issues • Comments regarding early start times for high/middle schools • Concerns about lack of sleep and possible impact on student performance • Concerns about safety in the winter when it is dark outside • Considering moving bell times ahead by 10-20 minutes to allow for later start times
Considerations • SLPS runs 3 tier system with goal to balance buses between the 3 tiers • Most cost efficient approach • Would cost the district an extra $8 -10 million to move to 2 tier system or to shift the times for only one tier without changing all the times • SLPS has magnet schools which require transportation across the city resulting in increased transportation time and the need for more time between tiers
Feedback • Seeking feedback to the proposed new school schedules • Replies are due back Friday, May 18 via • Website – www.slps.org/belltimesurvey • Voice Mail – (314) 345-4636 • Return Form back to school
