What is Unified Sports? • Unified Sports® uses the universal appeal and power of sport to break down fear, stereotype and misperception among young people with and without intellectual disabilities
What is Unified Sports? • Unified Sports combines approximately equal numbers of Special Olympics athletes and partners: athletes without disabilities

Increasing Unified Handball community without being focus area of SO-Germany • Unified Handball enclave in Hamburg: • Since 2010 approximately 50 athletes and unified partners recruited for 4 different teams in Hamburg • Weekly Unified Training in regular Handball Clubs • Sports Events with non-id handball teams in Hamburg on a regular basis • 1st official and recognized Unified Handball League in Hamburg since Sep. 2013 www.fwhh.org
Three modules one mission:Celebrate, Engage, Empower, have fun! • Celebrate Handball with Friends & Family • Engage youth handball teams to participate • Empower teams to become part of the community
Celebrate Handball withFriends & Family • Objective: Be together with friends to join our famous sports • Actions: • ‘Bring your own team` - tournaments • Demo matches before games of Champions League winner HSV Handball • Visit matches of HSV Handball with friends & family • Visit matches of participating clubs with friends & family
Engage youth handballteams to participate • Objective: Build a bridge between young handball players and athletes, break down fears • Actions: • Yearly HSV Handball Unified Cup in cooperationwith youth section of HSV Handball • Internships and thesis in cooperation with schools, handball clubs and universities • Expansion of Special Olympics competitions in Hamburg with youth handball players
Empower teams to become part of the community • Objective: Get a natural member of the Handball Community in Hamburg and Germany • Actions: • Cooperation with youth handball sections of clubs in Hamburg (see above) • First official certificated referee with id leading matches in regular youth leagues • First official unified league in Germany in cooperation with the Handball Association in Hamburg
