“Regional” Geography • is a thematic perspective for the study of a spatial area • is a hypothesis that this area is delimited at the regional scale by certain attributes • is an investigative approach to attributes of boundaries: • - e.g. physical, sociological, economic, historical, political, and cultural boundaries
What Shapes Regional Boundaries? • Climate • Earth-Sun relationship • Topographical elevation • Oceans and currents • Geo-Physical Forces • Mountain-building & drift • Composition & Erosion • Population • Species distribution • Human choices
What is expected of me in GEG2109? • Learn Geographic methods of assembling information • Deductive/inductive reasoning • Map use and interpretation • Statistics and their interpretation Apply these to illustrate and explain key perspectives on contemporary Canadian issues - Energy and resource use - Sustainability - Genetically-Modified Organisms - Aboriginal self-government - Language and human rights - Immigration trends and impacts - the East/West divide
