5th Purpose • To provide a pleasant and helpful social experience for all engaged in college band work and to cooperate with other musical organizations in any manner consistent with the purposes of the institution at which chapters are located.
National History • Following WWI – greater interest in band music • Few national organizations for professional musicians, but none for college or university band members • Movement to create such organization started at then Oklahoma A&M College (Oklahoma State University)
National History • Band member William Scroggs, Professor BohumilMakovsky, and Band President A. Frank Martin held a secret conference to select the first ten brothers

National History • First National Convention- January 2, 1922 in Stillwater, Oklahoma • BohumilMakovsky was the first National Honorary Member of Kappa Kappa Psi • Currently serves over 200 college and university band programs with over 5,000 active members
BohumilMakovsky • Affectionately referred to by all who knew him as “Boh” • Officially recognized as “The Guiding Spirit of Kappa Kappa Psi.” • Born September 23, 1878 in Frantisky, Bohemia
Boh • Boh immigrated to the United States in 1895 at the age of seventeen to join his sister in Clarkson, Nebraska • At the turn of the century, Boh decided to form his own band.
Boh in Oklahoma • Moved to Woodward, Oklahoma in 1904 • “King of Oklahoma March” – Boh’s first march • Selected as band director at Oklahoma Agricultural and Mechanical College on September 1, 1915 • Boh resigned his position at OAMC in July 1943 due to WWII, age and Parkinson’s Disease
Boh’s Honors • International Who’s Who - 1918 • Who’s Who in Oklahoma - 1935 • Pierre Key’s Musical Who’s Who -1931 • Honorary major in the OAMC ROTC - 1922 • Elected 4th Grand President of KKY -1927 • Elected to the Oklahoma Hall of Fame -1939 • Received honorary Doctor of Music degree from the University of Tulsa - 1940

National Intercollegiate Band • Open to all qualified musicians, whether or not they are members of the Fraternity or Sorority • Dr. F. Lee Bowling is credited as the founder of NIB • Held during KKY/TBS National Convention • Audition Deadline for 2011 is April 19th
