  1. What debt does a man owe his past? ~ John Dau After a civil war that lasted for over 20 years, peace has arrived in southern Sudan. However, the collapse of the social infrastructure during the long period of unrest has left the region with virtually no health services. Students and Teachers at Glasgow Middle School are participating in a read-a-thon to raise funds to build and maintain the Duk Lost Boys Clinic, which will be the first medical clinic to serve the 150,000 people of Duk County Sudan (Africa). The project is directed by John Dau, one of the “Lost Boys of Sudan” whose own struggle to survive the civil war in Sudan is documented in the film “God Grew Tired of Us”, who is also one of the founders of the Duk Lost Boys Clinic which is being built in the village he was forced to flee during the war. With no doctors or medical facilities for 75 miles, the people of Duk County are anxiously awaiting the opening of this clinic. The clinic’s staff will include a doctor who is currently undergoing specialized training to meet the health care needs of the region. While over $220,000 has already been raised to build this seven room clinic, an estimated additional $280,000 is required for setup and the first year of operations for the clinic. For more information contact Ms. Peters, IBMYP Community & Service Leader at Glasgow Middle School (michelle.peters@fcps.edu) Please help support Glasgow to serve others! The read-a-thon will be every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from March 12-22. The students will read for a total of 10 hours after school. If you are interested in donating any sum to help support the cause you can do so on the web at http://my.directchange.org/page/glasgow or send a check to Glasgow Middle School. If you would like to sponsor a student, sign up on the back of this sheet to pledge your support per hour read. Please make checks payable to Glasgow Middle School by March 26
