Reactant & Product A Reactant is what you use in a chemical reaction like in this picture it is Potassium iodide(KI) and lead nitrate (Pb(NO3)2). The product is the result in an experiment in the picture to the right the product is the yellow solid. http://images.encarta.msn.com/xrefmedia/sharemed/targets/images/pho/t046/T046403A.jpg http://wiki.answers.com/solidQ/What_is_a_reactant_and_a_product
The law of conservation of mass • The law that mass cannot be created of destroyed. • No matter what form the object takes it will always have the same mass. • This law is used in mechanics, and chemistry. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conservation_of_mass
How to know when a chemical reaction happens. http://acpcommunity.acp.edu/Facultystaff/genchem/GC2/lab/chemrxn/signs4.htm
Combustion This is when the O2 is on the left side of the reaction. An example is throwing a match into a gas can. http://contextfree.lazymoon.org/designs/combustion/combustion-byf.png
Decomposition This is where the chemical is broken up into more simpler chemicals. An example of decomposition is oxidation or the rusting of metal like iron or steel. http://www.nlm.nih.gov/visibleproofs/media/detailed/ii_a_219.jpg http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_are_some_examples_of_decomposition_reaction
Single replacement This is when on chemical from a set switches with another chemical in a different set. An example of single replacement is zinc and hydrocloricacid the thing that is left over is the hydrogen. http://www.usoe.k12.ut.us/CURR/Science/sciber00/8th/matter/images/decompos.gif http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_is_a_single_replacement_reaction
Double replacement This is the exact same as single replacement except it replaces two. http://www.usoe.k12.ut.us/CURR/Science/sciber00/8th/matter/images/DBLREP.GIF
Synthesis This is when two chemicals are added together to form a new chemical. \\groton.k12.ct.us\dfs\HighSchoolStudents\2012 Students\ngraning\My Documents\My Pictures\SYNTHES.gif
Chemical potential energy This is the energy stored between the atom bonds. http://www.people.vcu.edu/~rgowdy/mod/020/bow.gif http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chemical_potential
Activation energy Activation energy it is adding a match to a gas can the match is adding energy to the gas which lights it. http://www.theage.com.au/ffximage/2007/08/31/GAS_narrowweb__300x374,0.jpg
Exothermic & Endothermic • Exothermic is when a reaction gives off more energy(gets hotter). An example is yeast and hydrogen peroxide. • Endothermic is when a reaction absorbs more energy than it gives off(gets colder). An example is ammonium chloride and water.
