STATISTICAL DATA • UK NRIs generated 103 billion pounds for the UK economy annually • 80% to 85% of UK work permits were given to Indians. • 20 million pounds (US$36.8 million) are transferred from the UK to India in a month • In 2001, Indians were the most likely of any of the different ethnic groups to own their own homes • Those most likely to be employed in managerial or professional occupations • Indian pupils had the next highest achievement levels in academics after chinese • India has displaced China and Mexico to become the top remittance receiving country in the world, according to latest data released by the World Bank. Indians working in foreign countries sent back over $25.7 billion (roughly Rs 1,28,500 crore) as remittances in 2006
