  1. Poly(3-hexylthiophene) Supramolecular Structures on Carbon Nanotubes and GrapheneLei Zhai, University of Central Florida, DMR 0746499 Two types of carbon allotropes: carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and graphene have great potential applications in nano-electronics, sensors, energy storage devices, photovoltaics, and nanocomposite materials. One of the key challenges to fully realize their extensive applications is the efficient dispersion with functional materials that lead to functional composites with desired properties.A simple and versatile approach to fabricate various composites with tunable functionalities is developed using conjugated polymers and block copolymers. Such non-invasive approach can also introduces a variety of functionalities to CNTs and graphene. Poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) supra-molecular structures were also fabricated on CNT and graphene surfaces through an induced crystallization of P3HT, leading to interesting building blocks for nanoscale electronics. Binh won the first place prize at Undergraduate Research Showcase at UCF and will continue his graduate studies in PI’s group with a RAMP fellowship. • Participated NanoFlorida 2008 organized by the graduate students and undergraduate students, the first annual nanoscience technology symposium in Florida with over 200 participants from Florida and other states. In this symposium, Carl won the best poster award. • Gave lectures of nanoscience technology to undergraduate students. (A) Dr. Lei Zhai’s group picture. (E) Graduate/ undergraduate students organized NanoFlorida 2008 (F) Carl received the best poster award from Dr. Debra Reinhart (Director of NSTC)
