  2. About the artist: • Born on October 1632 • Died on December 1675 • Nationality: Dutch • He was an apprentice to his father, a carpenter • He attended Delft Guild of Saint Luke.

Challenges: • The Netherlands and France occurred which made it impossible for him to sell his work. • No one was interested in buying art after the French troops invaded Holland. • He only did two or three paintings a year while he had to support himself and his growing family. • His life was burdened by poverty.
