  1. DWAF International Aim Manage and promote good relations with African countries, International bodies and institutions, donors and the rest of the world with regards to Water and forestry sector initiatives Targeted Objectives • Oversee the establishment and performance of shared watercourse institutions with SADC • Oversee the Official Development Assistance (ODA) programme of the Department • Acts as a link between DWAF and foreign countries interested in water and forestry matters • Co-ordinate the participation and audit the performance of Bi-national Commissions/ committees with foreign countries

AFRICA • SADC • Implement revised SADC Protocol Agreement • Participate in shared watercourses through ORASECOM, LIMCOM, TPTC. • Promote bilateral relations with neighbouring basins • JWC (Mozambique & RSA), JWC (Swaziland & RSA), PWC (RSA & Namibia), Lesotho Highland Water Commission (Lesotho & RSA) • JPTC (RSA & Botswana) • Finalise the ratification of SADC Protocol on forestry • Engage neighbouring states on bilateral relations on cross-border fires (Lesotho, Botswana, Mozambique, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Swaziland. • Support initiatives of SADC Water Ministers • Africa • Post-conflict reconstruction efforts in DRC, Sudan and Rwanda • Support Congo forest Basin Partnership • Africa Multilaterals • Support initiatives of AMCOW

Global Engagement • Global Multilaterals • Facilitate DWAF’s role within the IBSA • Engage on UN multilateral forum • WWF, UNFF, UNCSD, WWW, World Water Congress on Forestry • 2011 Year of Forestry • Austral-Asia • Enhance bilateral relations on Water & Forestry, particularly with Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, New Zealand, Australia, China. • Americas • Enhance bilateral relations on water & forestry, particularly with Russia, Cuba, Spain, EU and USA. • ODA • Mobilise donor support with G8 & G5 countries to support DWAF, SADC, Africa’s initiatives.

  4. National Water Resource Strategy Revision Process • Target date for establishment of 2nd Edition NWRS is January 2010 • Target date to publish summary for public comment is July 2009 • Have prepared TOR for approval • At least one high-level workshop envisaged for high-impact decision makers • Coordination to be done via Steering Committee
