  1. What are the risks in your country Climate Variability change in rain pattern late on set and early seize and change in rain fall distribution including amount Unpredictable rain during off seasons drought and flood events Increase temperature including long dry period( current temperature rise by 1.1 to 3.1 by 2060 ) Incidence of diseases and pests

  2. What are the main risks faced by beneficiaries of the country programme • Crop failure and livestock loss due to drought, erratic rain, pests and diseases • Reduction of crop production due to excess moisture (rain), frost, welting of plants, new diseases and pests • Sever soil erosion including landslide due torrential rain and flood

  3. What information required to manage these risks • Tailored Weather forecasts to plan planting, harvesting and other activities on the farm • Index based insurance that gives farmers a measure of protection in the event of extreme weather • New farming techniques such as on crop diversification, agroforestry practices, conservation based agriculture etc • Information on available climate smart technology including new water harvesting technologies • Livelihood diversification options

  4. What adaption options is the country programme using to manage climate risks • Support to : • Dissemination of climate smart technologies • Pro poor agricultural research ( research into use ) • Livelihood diversification option • Alternative energy sources • Eco system

  5. How does the country programme measure adaptation to climate change • The CSP has its M&E Framework • M&E outsourced ( Managed by Consultant ) • All supported programmes have their M&E framework • Undertake case studies , Mid and final evaluation • Undertake studies (e.g. longitudinal study on Lake Hawassa in collaboration with IIED) • Use findings of other national programmes like PSNP SLM )
