Scenarios of the usage of multiple home network prefixes on a logical interfacedraft-hong-netext-scenario-logical-interface-01 Y-G.Hong, J-S.Youn ETRI IETF-78 netext Meeting @MAASTRICHT 2010.07.28
Goals of this draft • To describe various scenarios of the usage of a logical interface in a LMA side and a MN side • Scenarios 1 - LMA acknowledges each physical interface of a MN • Scenarios 2 - LMA acknowledges a logical interface of a MN • Scenarios 3 - All home network prefixes are shown to host IP stack • Scenarios 4 - Only one home network prefix is shown to host IP stack
Motivation (1/3) • Logical interface • used to hide the change of network interface from the upper host IP layer • Multihoming support of PMIPv6 • LMA MUST allocate a mobility session for each of the attached interfaces • The LMA MAY allocate more than one home network prefix for a given interface of the mobile node • The LMA MUST allow for a handoff between two different interfaces of a mobile node
Motivation (2/3) • With logical interface, in LMA point of view; • LMAcan acknowledge each physical interface and it allocates mobility sessions for each interface and each mobility session for the each physical interface is generated ; sceanrio-1 • LMA can acknowledge only a logical interface and it allocates mobility sessions for a logical interface and mobility session for a logical interface is generated ; scenario-2
Motivation (3/3) • With logical interface, in MN point of view • If a LMA allocates multiple HNPs to a multiple interfaces MN, these multiple home network prefixes are totally shown to the host IP stack ; scenario-3 • Even though a LMA allocates multiple HNPs to a multiple interfaces MN, only one home HNP is shown to the host IP stack ; scenario-4 • If a logical interface hides the change of interfaces and also can hide the change of home network prefixes
Scenario-1 • LMA acknowledges each physical interface of a MN LMA MAG 2 MAG 1 P-CoA2 P-CoA1 RA (Prefix=HNP#1) RA (Prefix=HNP#2) WiMAX WLAN LL-ID : XXX LL-ID : YYY I/F 1 I/F 2 HNP#2 HNP#1 Logical Interface LL-ID : ZZZ Mobile Node
Scenario-2 • LMA acknowledges a logical interface of a MN LMA MAG 2 MAG 1 P-CoA2 P-CoA1 RA (Prefix=HNP#1) RA (Prefix=HNP#2) WiMAX WLAN LL-ID : XXX LL-ID : YYY I/F 1 I/F 2 HNP#2 HNP#1 Logical Interface LL-ID : ZZZ Mobile Node
Scenario-3 • All home network prefixes are shown to host IP stack LMA MAG 2 MAG 1 P-CoA2 P-CoA1 RA (Prefix=HNP#1) RA (Prefix=HNP#2) WiMAX WLAN LL-ID : XXX LL-ID : YYY I/F 1 I/F 2 HNP#2 HNP#1 Logical Interface LL-ID : ZZZ HNP#1::ZZZ/128, HNP#2::ZZZ/128 Mobile Node
Scenario-4 • Only one home network prefix is shown to host IP stack LMA MAG 2 MAG 1 P-CoA2 P-CoA1 RA (Prefix=HNP#1) RA (Prefix=HNP#2) WiMAX WLAN LL-ID : XXX LL-ID : YYY I/F 1 I/F 2 HNP#2 HNP#1 Logical Interface LL-ID : ZZZ HNP#1::ZZZ/128 Mobile Node 9 9
Next Step? • Is describing various scenario of the usage of logical interface in PMIPv6 necessary? • Or should we target on a specific scenario? • Scenario-1 vs. Scenario-2 • Scenario-3 vs. Scenario-4 • Is there interest in WG? • Then, develop as separate document or merge into Logical interface support document?
