What is sequestration? • The action of taking legal possession of assets until a debt has been paid or other claims have been met (Budget Cuts). • Budget cuts are reducing funding for programs ranging from Head Start and Meals on Wheels to the Department of Defense. • Schools on military bases • Food Pantries • Farmers • Federal Courts • Public Broadcasting Transmitters • Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) • Luxuries Cruises

  3. How does this affect the CBp agents • CBP stands to lose $512 million in fiscal year (OMB, 2013). • Sequestration has removed 5,000 agents off the line. • It has cost each agent $7,000 a year. • 10-14 hours shifts have been deduced to 8 hour shifts. 87% 6.4%

  4. How it affects us • Traveling • Parks being closed • People getting laid off • Prices going up • sequestration would reduce staffing at U.S. points of entry and airports security checkpoints, increasing wait times for travelers and slowing commerce across the country.
