Where do we go for family work? When you, or someone you know, has a learning disability or mental health problem it can be difficult and frightening for everyone around them to know how to cope. Family work can help everyone learn to cope better, reduce stress and talk to each other more. Two family workers will come to your home or where you all agree you would to meet. Who is family work for? Family work is for everyone who is involved in your life. This could be your parents or other family members, friends, the people you live with, or the people that support you. What do we do in family work? • There is a 1 hour meeting every week or every fortnight • Two family workers will help at the meetings • Set goals • Talk about my learning disability/mental health problem • Have time to practice how we tell each other good things and things that are difficult • Find out how we can talk about problems • Try to solve problems • Practice skills together.
