What are the types of reading? According to Kentucky’s Core Content for Reading Assessment: Reading is divided into 4 sub domains: Literature Information Persuasion Practical/Workplace http://www.kde.state.ky.us/oapd/curric/corecontent/reading_cc_30.DOC

Social Studies • Create trading cards of famous Americans • Enchanted Learning Site http://www.enchantedlearning.com/history/us/aframer/ • State Report • Create a brochure of information about a state. • http://itech.fcps.net/trt18 • Use Time Liner to order events of assigned reading.
Science • Class collection of information i.e. animal book or power point • Use paint to draw and explain a process using researched information • Use Inspiration or Kidspiration to explain a process
Math • Weather Web Quest http://jcoxbuckingham.tripod.com/id3.htm • Using Word, and any presentation software provide directions on a mathematical process and it’s history and uses. • Find a recipe online and double the ingredients. Use the computer’s calculator to help. • Finds pictures online and locate various shapes. (discrimination skills for reading). • Research and determine a stock to “buy” and track for progress. Class project?
Math • Use just about any program to make a book or talking book on numbers. The students write the number on the page and illustrate it. • Tons of the Hundred Days of School activities could be adjusted. • Make a dictionary of math terms- if done in PPt, HyperStudio, or some type of slide show, they can keep adding to it all year. • Write story problems. • KWL charts on math concepts • Here is one of my favorites and can be done with just about any grade level who can write:Students pick a topic to research on student preferences (favorite colors, foods, candy, book characters or what ever)Students have time to interview all the students in the class to gather statistics on preferences. They write the categories and tally the info.Students enter data on Excel spreadsheet and then make graphs - includes both writing and numbers!This is absolutely super at the beginning of the year to meet classmates, or anytime to introduce or end a unit! • *Barbara Barr
Art and Music • Locate a famous painting online and provide an analysis of the picture concerning the elements of art. Compare your analysis to other online critiques. • Research various sites to determine favorite styles of much is different areas of the United States.
