Michael Kenna • Was born in Widnes, England in 1953 • Attended Uphollend college in Lancashire, the Banbury School of Art in Oxfordshire, and the London college of printing. • His work has been show in galleries and museum exibititions.
Kennas style • Michael Kenna's work has often been described as enigmatic, graceful and hauntingly beautiful much like the Japanese landscape. • Most photos of his are black and white and are shot in Asian landscapes. Huangshan Mountains, Anhui, china
He used outside lighting. the main subject of this photo is the beach sticks in the ground. He made this photo black and white like he does with most. I selected this photo because I like the way it goes into the horizon and the way its so simple but really cool. Punguy Beach Sticks, Jaeun-do, Shinan, South Korea, 2012
Outside lighting is used from the moon which I think is cool because it’s a different kind of light. The main point of this photo is the moon I can tell because its in the rule of thirds. The composition used in this photo is he made it black and white as he does in most photos of his. I like how this picture is black and white because it ad a mysteries feel to the picture. I chose this picture from the others because while I was looking through his photos when I saw this one it was just appealing to my eyes. Sunset over Seaweed Farm, Aphe-do, Shinan, South Korea, 2012
The lighting in this photo is outside and the main point in it is the Washington monument because everything else in the picture is kind of pointing you to it. the composition in this photo is black and white. I think Kennas might be trying to communicate that the Washington monument is such an amazing American building. selected this photo because I thought it was cool how the water lead up to the building. Washington Monument, Study 1, D.C., USA. 2001
This photo has outside lighting. The main point in this photo are the twin towers. The composition in this picture is black and white. I don’t think there was really a real meaning to this photo when he took it but I think now it just shows the two great building that fell from a terrorist attack and what an impact it had on America. I chose this photo because I thought it was intresting how when he took this photo he was never thinking these two buildings would ever fall and now in present day there gone. Twin Towers, Study 1, New York City, USA, 1978
