Welcome to Pivot! The Office of Grant & Contract Services Research administration
What is Pivot? • Pivot is a powerful tool that will help you to: • Find and track potential funding opportunities • A global database packed with 28,000 records of funding opportunities worth an estimated $33 billion & updated daily; Pivot uses an advanced algorithm to help you find grants and other monies from public and private sponsors • Find potential collaborators from UTA and worldwide • Over 3.2 million faculty profiles and growing, with over 200 disciplines represented from 75+ countries and 2,100 universities
Accessing Pivot • Go to http://pivot.cos.comfrom anywhere–automatic association with UTA on campus • Don’t forget to log in to save your searches, track funding opportunities, and more • Compatible Browsers include Chrome, Firefox, IE, and Safari 3
Using Pivot • My best advice: • USE THE ADVANCED SEARCH FUNCTION! 5
SEARCHING FOR OPPORTUNITIES • Use keywords! • Check the “Explode” box to get more matches • Activity Location – United States / Unrestricted • Filter by deadlines or sponsor requirements • Don’t forget to use the “Exclude Opportunities” section to further refine your search • Use Truncation (Asterisk), Proximity Operators (pre/#, w/#), Exact Phrase Searching (Double Quotes), and Precedence (Parentheses) to give your search more flexibility. 6
Saving Searches • Once you’ve added your keywords and other search criteria, you can save it. Pivot can send you weekly emails with new opportunities that match your saved search. 8
Tracking Funding Opportunities • Step 1 is to search; Step 2 is to track. 9
Tracking Funding Opportunities • Now your tracked opportunities show up in your home screen. You can add the deadline to your calendar, add tags & email reminders, and share with your collaborators. Under Options menu 10
Active Opportunities • If you’re pretty certain that you want to apply to a given opportunity, you can add it to “Active Opportunities” to set it aside from your longer list of Tracked Opportunities. 11
Active Opportunities • Active Opportunities have all the same options as Tracked Opportunities, but they are set apart for easy access. 12
Building your Profile for Better Results • Log in to your Pivot account and click on your name • Click “Claim Profile” • You can either click “This is me” if your name pre-populates, or click “Create your Profile” if no match is found 13
Building your Profile for Better Results • Pivot allows users to update the following profile information: • Name • Email Addresses • Webpages • ORCID ID • Expertise • Affiliations • Education • Keywords • Languages • Associations • Honors Pivot updates publications and faculty bios automatically on a periodic basis.
Additional Pivot Functionality • Funding Advisor (based upon profile information) • Using Pivot to find potential collaborators – both at UTA and external institutions • Quick Searching by Sponsor / Text • Customizable deadline notifications • Creating a group for easy sharing of funding opportunities (non-users can view for 14 days) • Tracking Limited Submissions • Curated Lists
