  2. There are different ways to say how are you in Spanish. • ¿Cómoestás? and ¿Quétal? are familiar greetings. • ¿ Cómoestáusted (Ud.)? is a formal greeting. Using familiar and formal with greetings

  3. Familiar greetings are used with: • Family • Friends • Someone younger • Formal greetings are used with: • A person you don’t know well(stranger) • Someone older • Someone for whom you wish to show respect (in family or position of influence – i.e. President) Using familiar and formal with greetings

  4. Subject Pronouns Subjects are used at the beginning of a sentence to state who is doing the action. Subject pronouns can replace a person’s name or description. Masculine subject pronouns are used for all boys or a group of boys and girls. Feminine subject pronouns are used for all girls only.

  7. Ser with Countries To say where someone is from, use: Subject + Form of ser + de + Country For example: I am from the United States. Yo soy de los EstadosUnidos. You (fam.) are from Peru. Túeres de Perú.

  8. Gustar To say what someone likes to do use the form of Gustar and an activity. Activities: Bailar – to dance Cantar – to sing Comer – to eat Escribir – to write Leer – to read Nadar – to swim Patinar – to skate Trabajar – to work

  10. Gustar with activities Ex. I like to dance. Me gustabailar. Ex. You (fam.) like to swim. Te gustanadar. When you are talking about a dislike, just add no out front. Ex. He doesn’t like to sing. No le gustacantar. Ex. We don’t like to work. No nosgustatrabajar.
