CAP 6412 Advanced Computer Vision January 10, 2005
General • Instructor: Dr. Alper Yilmaz • Email: yilmaz@cs.ucf.edu • Office: CSB 250 • Objective: • Review of the recent literature on Computer Vision Research • Prepare student for graduate research on computer vision
Course • Office hours • Monday 3.00pm-4.30pm • Wednesday 3.00pm-4.30pm • Grading • Reports 30% • Discussion and Attendance 20% • Assignments 10% • Projects (2 or 3) 30% • Presentations %10 • No Exams – No Final • Course prerequisites • CAP5415 Computer Vision • Linear Algebra • C, C++ or Matlab programming
What will we be doing… • Every week or every class • One person presents the paper • Others write a report on the paper • Open discussion • There may be homework or project assignments (not every week)
Leading Journals & Conferences • International Journal of Computer Vision (IJCV) • Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence (PAMI) • IEEE Computer Society Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition (CVPR) • International Conference on Computer Vision (ICCV) • European Conference on Computer Vision (ECCV)
Tips on Reading Paper • First read once • Skip related work • Understand problem • Do not try to understand details • Read once more – understand details • Try to extract sub-problems • Think about how to implement them • Read as many • Do not use dictionary for maximum likelihood • Relate to other Vision Problems you are aware of • Understand how the sub-problems are combined together.
