  2. William Barret Travis William Barrett born in south Carolina August 9, 1809 Texas in early 1831, Travis obtained land from Stephen F. Austin Joined the militia commander of the gallant men that defended the Alamo in 1836 buying General Sam Houstor precious time to build and train an army to fight Santa Anna's army.
